What I Wore in Cabo: Tropical Resort Style

Cabo gave me the perfect excuse to do something I love when traveling: wear color.

For one of my mornings in Cabo San Lucas, I pulled out this bright orange tropical set before heading out for horseback riding later that day. Between the palm trees, sandy landscape and warm tones of the resort, this ended up being one of my favorite vacation looks from the trip.

Packing tip: I use travel space bags to help organize vacation outfits and maximize suitcase space.

Dressing for the Destination

I think vacation is one of the best times to experiment with clothes you might not normally reach for at home.

For Mexico, I wanted prints, bright colors and pieces that immediately felt tropical.

This orange tropical vacation set checked every box.

The combination of orange, pink and green instantly stood out against the neutral colors throughout the resort. I especially loved the flowing sleeves, front tie and matching shorts because the outfit had enough personality to photograph beautifully without needing many accessories.

And that's something I've started thinking about more when packing for trips: How will an outfit photograph in the destination?

A beautiful outfit can look completely different depending on its surroundings. Here, the orange picked up the terracotta and warm architectural tones while the tropical print complemented the palm trees.

It felt like the outfit belonged in Cabo.

My Vacation Outfit Formula

My vacation wardrobe doesn't need to be complicated.

Give me one statement piece, simple vacation accessories, comfortable shoes and a great backdrop.

For this look, I added a floral statement necklace and bracelets while keeping everything else fairly simple. My long black hair created another contrast against the bright orange.

I also love two-piece sets for travel because the pieces don't necessarily have to stay together. The top could easily be worn over swimwear, while the shorts could be paired with a simpler top later in the trip.

When suitcase space matters, I want clothes that can give me more than one look.

Cabo Is Made for Color

Looking back at these photographs, what I love most isn't necessarily the cabana or even the resort.

It's the color story.

The orange outfit. The sand. The palms. The stone. The muted Cabo sky.

Travel photography doesn't always have to document an attraction. Sometimes a photograph captures how a destination felt.

And on this particular morning, Cabo felt warm, colorful, feminine and tropical—which was exactly how I wanted to dress.

Later, I traded this resort look for something much more adventure-ready and headed out for my horseback-riding experience in Baja California.

But this outfit deserved its own moment first.
